HERCA Board 2015 Spring Meeting

 

The Spring HERCA Board Meeting was held on 4-5 May 2015 in Lisbon, Portugal. This meeting has been kindly hosted by the Instituto Superior Técnico.

During this meeting, participants from Portugal and the Netherlands presented the latest national developments concerning the organization of the regulation of radiation protection and nuclear safety.

The European Commission (EC), as Observer, and the Board members also discussed issues of common interest, in particular the EC position on the HERCA-WENRA Approach for a better cross-border coordination of protective actions during the early phase of a nuclear accident.

Subsequently the HERCA Working Groups and Task Forces reported on their activities, in particular on the follow-up of the multi-stakeholders’ meetings on the justification medical imaging procedures and on the optimized use of CT scanners, the upcoming Inspection Competence Workshop in the medical Field (Brussels, Belgium, September 2015) the Mandate and Action plan of the WG Emergencies, a proposal for an European electronic system for exchanging data on radiological monitoring of workers and the education and training for veterinarians.

In the framework of the HERCA Action Plan in relation to the transposition and implementation of the new Euratom BSS (Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom), HERCA is organizing in 2015 three workshops: on the implementation of Radiation Protection Experts (RPE) and Radiation Protection Officers (RPO) (Paris, France, July 2015), on emergency Preparedness and Response (Berlin, Germany, April 2015) and on Radon in work places (Geneva, Switzerland, October 2015). The Spring meeting was the occasion to present details on the progress in their organization.

The HERCA Autumn Board of Heads Meeting will take place on 9-10 November 2015 in Athens, Greece.
