HERCA publishes a report on Quality Management Systems (QMS)

This HERCA position statement (prepared by HERCA WGMA and approved during the 36th HERCA Board of Heads meeting in Nov 2025 in The Hague) sets out essential requirements for integrating radiation protection and safety into Quality Management Systems (QMS) across medical services using ionising radiation.

It provides clear guidance for national radiation protection authorities and healthcare providers on how a well-designed, risk-based, and continuously improving QMS can enhance patient safety, staff protection, and regulatory compliance.

By promoting the integration of radiation protection into overarching healthcare quality systems, the paper aims to support consistent, high-quality, and optimised radiological practice throughout Europe.
