HERCA MedInspector 2015 Workshop

HERCA organised a workshop on “How to inspect justification and optimization in diagnostic radiology” on 6-8 October 2015 in Brussels, Belgium. This workshop has been an effective platform, bringing together inspectors among Europe, for exchanging practical ideas and experiences when it comes to inspection of justification and optimization. From these discussions, participants have produced recommendations on the practical inspection of justification and optimization within diagnostic radiology.

HERCA Workshop on the implementation of Radiation Protection Expert (RPE) and Radiation Protection Officer (RPO)

HERCA has organised on 6-8 July 2015, a workshop kindly hosted by the French nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) in its premises in Montrouge (France) on the implementation of Radiation Protection Expert (RPE) and Radiation Protection Officer (RPO). Experts from 17 European regulatory countries participating in HERCA plus experts from international organisations such as EC, IAEA, and IRPA participated in this workshop.

HERCA Worshop on RPE & RPO

The Heads of the European Radiation protection Competent Authorities (HERCA) have organised on 6-8 July 2015, a workshop kindly hosted by the French nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) in its premises in Montrouge (France) on the implementation of Radiation Protection Expert (RPE) and Radiation Protection Officer (RPO). This workshop is part of the HERCA Action Plan in relation with the transposition and implementation of the Directive 2013/59/Euratom (Euratom BSS). It has been organised by the HERCA Task Force on Education & Training in Radiation Protection on behalf of HERCA in collaboration with the Dutch Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS), the Greek Atomic Energy Commission (EEAE) and the French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN).

HERCA Board 2015 Spring Meeting

The HERCA Spring Board of Heads Meeting was held on 4-5 May 2015 in Lisbon, Portugal. Board of Heads members discussed the latest developments of HERCA Entities and the upcoming activities and events.

Meeting between European radiation protection authorities and major stakeholders on the optimised use of CT scanners

On 1st April, HERCA (Heads of the European Radiological protection Competent Authorities) organised a multi-stakeholder meeting in Paris. The objective of the meeting was to exchange views with a variety of key stakeholders on issues with regard to the optimised use of computed tomography (CT) scanners. All organisations present welcomed HERCA’s initiative recognising the importance of the CT dose management tools and techniques. Further concrete steps were agreed upon and will be followed up.

HERCA approves an HERCA Action Plan in relation to the transposition and implementation of Directive 2013/59/Euratom (Euratom-BSS)

The Board of Heads of HERCA has approved on its 14th Meeting held in Stockholm on 21-22 October an Action Plan in relation to the transposition and implementation of the new Euratom BSS. The new BSS, Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom, was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 17th January 2014 and Member States have until the 6th February 2018 to complete the process of transposition into their national regulations.

New European Approach for cross-border Emergency Preparedness

The heads of the national nuclear and radiation safety regulators in Europe have developed and agreed on a new approach to further improve the response and cross-border coordination for all types of possible accident scenarios including severe accidents, like the one in Fukushima. It contains overarching principles and provides an incentive for joint actions between neighbouring countries. The regulators have committed to engage a cooperation at national level with the competent authorities in charge of civil protection for the implementation of the corresponding measures.
